What is Electrolysis all about?
Chehalis Electrolysis is committed to educating our clients. If you have questions, we will have answers. These are the most common questions Liz has been asked by her clients. If you have more questions please feel free to email or call her.
Is Electrolysis new? I haven't heard of it before.
No, electrolysis has been around for over 130 years; the field is called electrology. It started through the research of Dr. Charles Michel, an ophthalmologist, in 1869. Dr. Michel wanted to develop a safe and effective way to remove ingrown eyelash hairs. If untreated these ingrown hairs could lead to blindess and was a serious issue. In 1875 his research was published on the permanence and safeness of electrolysis for permanent hair removal. Soon after the medical community accepted electrolysis as a safe and permanent method of hair removal. After this acceptance within medicine, electrolysis has only greatly improved and advanced through the use of computerized electrolysis machines, such as the Senior 3G; which offer superior comfort and effectiveness to clients wanting to remove their unwanted hair.
How long does electrolysis take?
Each session can range from 15 minutes to a couple hours. Most clients usually book 15 to 45 minutes for the face/chin area and 30 plus minutes to work on larger areas on the body. Electrolysis treatment durations range from 12 to 18 months to completion. This depends on why the hair growth is present. If it has a hormonal source treatment will need to continue until the medical issue is addressed.
Why do I still have hair growth after 6 months?
Electrolysis is not an over night sensation. It is truly permanent. This means that all hairs in the desired treatment area need to be treated with electrolysis. Even with laser hair removal you will need to come back a few times to achieve a reduction.
I thought this was permanent. Why do I have to come back again?
The answer is: Hair cycles. Not all active follicles are in the anagen phase at one time and may not be visible. This means that new, untreated hairs, will be coming in as you are being treated with electrolysis.
I tan, can I still receive electrolysis treatments?
YES! Unlike laser hair removal tanning does not affect the success of electrolysis treatments. It is effective even if your hair is white/grey and if your skin is tan or naturally darker. Why stop tanning when you don't have to?
Could I get scars?
Although it is possible to get scars from any beauty treatment done wrong, electrolysis should not cause any permanent skin issues. Right after treatment the skin may be inflamed but this subsides quickly. Please let Liz know if your skin is prone to scaring or is sensitive so that she can adjust the treatment accordingly.
I didn't have much hair when I started treatment. Why am I still seeing hairs grow?
Even if you cannot see very many hairs at one time you may have more hairs than you thought. Especially, if you were tweezing or waxing before you started electrolysis treatments. At any given time there are follicles in the telogen phase which means they are not visible. After ceasing non-permanent hair removal more hairs will be visible. This is good because those are the follicles that can be treated by electrolysis.
My hair is really thick will electrolysis still work?
Yes! Electrolysis works on all types of hairs, whether they be black, brown, gray, white, or red and all sizes and thicknesses can be treated successfully. If a hair is deep, distorted, and thick it may need to be broken down over more than one treatment to preserve the skin and prevent over treating. The hair will still come in thinner than the first time it was treated!
Do you offer free consultations? Do I really need one?
Yes and yes! Chehalis Electrolysis offers free consultations so that your treatment can be personalized to your needs. A small area will be done and you will be able to see how your skin reacts. When you schedule your next appointment you will be able to discuss with your electrologist any questions that you may have about the hairs that were removed. To make sure that you are satisfied with your hair removal journey it is best to have a consultation. Take advantage of free treatment!
What machine do you use? Does the machine matter?
Chehalis Electrolysis uses the Apilus Senior 3G it is the most state-of-the-art of its kind. The machine only matters to an extent. Although, older machines are not as comfortable as the new computerized electroepilation devices now. Proper technique and after care are very important to have positive results. Speak with your electrologist about any questions you have about after care.
I am getting thermolysis. What should I put on my skin afterwards?
Since thermolysis uses heat to destroy the germ cells of the hair, it is best to use a water based moisturizers containing aloe or other cooling ingredients NOT oil based moisturizers. An after care sheet will be provided to all new clients.
Does Chehalis electrolysis require their electrologists to wear gloves?
Yes, to prevent the spread of bacteria and disease and ensure that your skin heals quickly new gloves will be used for each client. Since Liz has taken medical microbiology she knows first-hand the best ways to minimize and prevent infection.
Does Chehalis Electrolysis have promotions?
Yes! We have different promotions from time to time. Like our Facebook page & follow us on twitter to get notifications about our promotions.
Why aren't there very many electrologists in Chehalis and Centralia if this is the only FDA approved 100% permanent method of hair removal?
Many people now choose laser hair removal instead of electrolysis. If you are willing to have a reduction and not complete removal of all hairs present then laser may be an option. Also, if you have very course hair it is an option but fine hairs and gray/white hairs cannot be treated with laser hair removal. That's where electrolysis comes in.
I have dark skin. Will electrolysis still work?
Yes! Electrolysis is not only permanent but it can also treat all types of skin colors without damage, unlike laser hair removal.
Who can benefit from permanent hair removal?
All most everyone! Whether they are women, men, or transgender many people have taken advantage of electrolysis. Also, people with medical conditions such as mrsa and chronically infected ingrown hairs need relief and turn to electrolysis. Others need an area to be permanently hairless for a surgery. As long as you want the hair PERMANENTLY GONE then electrolysis is for you.
Types of Hair Removal?
Most people turn to waxing when they want to get rid of their troublesome hair but this is only a temporary method of hair removal. When waxing takes place the hair is pulled out leading to a rush of nurtient rich blood in the hair follicle. This causes a healing effect that encourages the hair to grow stronger. So even very thin hairs that wouldn't be a problem for you may become thicker and become problem hairs. Also, there is tweezing, chemical removal of hair such as Nair, rotary epilators, NONO and other fad products, sugaring (is like waxing), home hair removal kits (as seen on TV), Tria, threading, shaving, bleaching and hair growth minimizing creams such as Vaniqa,... the list goes on. These are all temporary methods of hair removal and in some cases damage the skin. IPL and laser hair removal (depending on skin color) may produce permanent hair REDUCTION but usually following up with electrolysis to get lighter colored hairs such as light brown, gray, or blonde hair is necessary.
Electrolysis Hair Removal Cost?
Since people have different reasons for their hair growth, the cost varies. What is most important is consistency for your appointments. These topics can be discussed in more detail during your free consultation.
Brazilian Wax Vs. Brazilian Electrolysis
Since electrolysis is safe for all areas you can have permanent smooth skin! Say goodbye to waxing and hello to the PERMANENT BRAZILIAN ELECTROLYSIS!
Why do some electrologists not offer treatment of hairs during consultations?
Some electrologists don't feel the necessity to test the area being treated and do not feel it is appropriate to provide any services for free. At Chehalis Electrolysis we wish to gain your trust and we know that after trying our services you will come back. We want you to feel comfortable with the electrolysis process and that means testing areas, especially on the face! If you come in because you want your unwanted hair gone then it is safe to assume that you will also want to keep your beautiful skin throughout the process. WE BELIEVE CLIENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO TEST OUR SERVICES WITHOUT SACRIFICING THEIR MONEY OR THEIR SKIN! You shouldn't feel guilty to say stop because you have already paid for 15 minutes with someone. You have that control at Chehalis Electrolysis, if when you come in for your 15 minute free consultation you only want to test 2 or 3 hairs that is fine, if you want work done for 10 minutes that is fine as well. Liz has been to many electrologists on her hair removal journey and she never felt comfortable being forced into whole treatment sessions before knowing the quality of the electrologist. With this in mind she developed the free consulatation plan which includes education on electrolysis, hair growth cycles, Q&As, and treatment of unwanted hair.
